Slow Work: Day Three
With some of the larger fabrication work completed on
the "topside" it was time to concentrate on the "underside" namely the
AC condenser. As a result of the lowered radiator the AC condenser was
a tight fit...if you could call it that. More like a non-fit. I'd heard
of the condenser being laid flat to aid in airflow to the radiator and
decided that now would be the perfect opportunity to undertake this modification.
If I didn't feel a strong desire to retain the AC for street use I would
have disconnected it entirely but I still use my car on the street so decided
I should find a way to keep the AC. The only design drawback to lowering
the AC condenser is that would be entirely dependent on forced airflow
for cooling vs the airflow from the fans "pulling" air through the condenser.
So I fully expect the AC to be barely function when sitting still in traffic.
In either case my car rarely sits still in traffic - I avoid heavy traffic
like the plague. The details of what I did are shown below
I fabricated a set of aluminum brackets and new hardware
for dropping the AC condenser to a horizontal position. This will allow
air a direct shot at the radiator while still maintaining a somewhat functional
AC system. The OE brackets are pictured on the left. I made it a point
to retain the OE vibration dampeners and even went so far as to add some
addition rubber to the remaining bolted connections.

with respect to the nose opening. The undertray had to be modified slightly
on the left and right sides to accommodate the new brackets but it is for
the most part functioning exactly as it was originally.
Unrelated to the AC condenser "project" here is a
head on shot of the approximate location of the IC duct inlet. The PIAA
driving light will of course be removed for track use.
